Food for Life Partnership
Fish and Kids & Food for Life
The Food for Life Partnership is a UK initiative delivered by the Soil Association aiming to revolutionise school meals, reconnect children and young people with where their food comes from, and inspire families to grow and cook food.
Schools
The Food For Life Partnership awards Bronze, Silver and Gold awards to schools which meet a set of criteria for sourcing, education, and food culture in schools.
Fish and kids fits very well into the whole school approach to food, education and sustainability promoted by the Food for Life partnership.
Are you working towards an award?
For bronze awards, the Fish and Kids educational resources can be used to engage catering staff in educational activities and as themes for assemblies.
For silver and gold awards, sourcing MSC and using the MSC ecolabel on your menus is a key step in achieving food quality and provenance criteria. The lesson plans and other resources online are also useful for helping pupils to explore the ethical and environmental issues around food choices.
Caterers
LEAs and contract caterers can also work towards the Bronze, Silver and Gold Soil Association Catering Mark, which recognises excellence in similar criteria for sourcing and sustainability.
Sourcing and serving MSC fish and using the MSC ecolabel on your menus is a key step in achieving the Gold catering award.
