Cafeteria
Are you responsible for buying food for schools? Do you want to get sustainable seafood on the menu? If so - speak to your supplier and request MSC labelled seafood.
There are already several child-friendly, MSC labelled products available. It is getting easier to source sustainable fish as more and more fisheries have joined the MSC process. Around 40% of edible white fish fisheries are now part of our programme, and over 40% of wild salmon fisheries. If your supplier doesn't already provide MSC products, encourage them to start! The guidance documents should help to get you started and the MSC's main website has more information for your suppliers (www.msc.org).
Brakes, the UK's largest supplier of food to schools, has a wide range of products from salmon fishfingers to simple hoki fillets. If Brakes is your supplier, speak to your national account manager about using the MSC eco-label on your menu to identify sustainable fish options. Brakes is currently the only foodservice supplier able to extend their 'Chain of Custody' or traceability standard, to their public sector clients - essential in order to highlight sustainable fish using the eco-label.
